Milasen: the Story of a Young Patient + A Monumental First in Personalized Medicine

Something big happened in medicine, recently.

Scientists designed the first-ever customized drug for just one patient.

It’s called Milasen. And it was designed specifically for, Mila Makovec a young patient who is battling a rare neurological disorder called Batten Disease.

This new frontier of personalized medicine is monumental for the scientific and healthcare communities. And we’re honored to have played a small role in bringing this incredible story to life. We collaborated with Charles River on this powerful story for their “Every Step of the Way” series, a series that tells the stories of their network of dedicated scientists and patients who are making life-changing and life-saving discoveries.

For Mila and Milasen, Charles River played a significant role in producing the drug and performing all of the safety testing in weeks for the FDA, a process that can sometimes take almost a year.

Just one little girl has changed everything we know about drug development. We can’t wait to see what this new future of personalized medicine looks like.
