Today’s consumers are becoming more empowered in their own health journeys, and in turn, becoming more fluent in digital therapeutics and health tech that allows them to access their own data like never before. These “Dr. Consumers” have more access to data about themselves than ever before, often taking on the role of being their own healthcare providers. This trend, driven both by the pandemic and the burgeoning market for health tech offerings like wearables and digital therapeutics, is deeply integrated and normalized into the future of healthcare. So how can practitioners in healthcare adapt to this new generation of patients?

“It’s the responsibility of the DTx innovators to ensure we first understand the drivers and needs of the communities we serve — not just the overt, functional need but the emotional need,” says Hamid. “So the bigger question may not be whether society is ready for digital therapeutics, but whether digital therapeutics technology is ready for society?”
